In many ways the Settle & Carlisle Railway is today, a line transformed.
The threat of closure is long gone and the line sees regular scheduled passenger, special charter and heavy freight traffic. Network Rail has made significant investment on the line, upgrading both the track and signalling. All 10 remaining stations have been transformed through successful partnership working between the key stakeholders on the line.

It may, therefore, be understandable to think that nothing more needs to be done by the Trust. Nothing could be further from the truth. The Trust has an ambitious programme of works including:
The expansion of Ribblehead Visitor Centre
Preservation and care of signal boxes
Work at Dent to interpret the snow fences
Potential development at Hellifield station
Making archival material more accessible
Decorative ironwork
at Hellifield
